David Gough Racing

UP NEXT: 7/6/2008 - Angell Park Speedway, Sun Prairie, WI

6/30/2008

Qualified 7th fastest sunday night but had to run the B-main after finishing 5th in the heat race.  Driver error in the B-main ended with a 20th place start in the A-main.  We picked up a few spots to finish 13th.  The team will be back at Angell Park next weekend.

6/23/2008

The trip to Knoxville was fun.  Man, what a fast race track!  Transfered through our heat race Friday night to the A main and finished 15th.  The car was good on the bottom once the driver figured out how to drive it down there.  I was wishing the race would have run another 10-20 laps as we were picking up spots at the end.  Saturday the track was real heavy after rains came right before hot laps.  I got up over the cushion a couple times in our heat and had to run the B.  Unfortunately we didn't transfer and had to watch the main.  Sunday night was rained out at the Prairie.  The next 2 weeks we will be at Angell Park.

6/16/2008

Qualified 9th Sunday night at Sun Prairie.  We transfered to main with a 3rd place run in our heat race then finished a disappointing 12th in the feature.  On to Knoxville this weekend before heading back to Angell Park on Sunday night.

6/9/2008

Rained out at Angell Park over the weekend.  We will try again next sunday.

6/2/2008

I didn't get the results I hoped for over the weekend but we'll try harder next sunday at the prairie.  We did manage to qualify 6th quick sunday night and won the B-main.

5/30/2008

Rain has postponed the races at Dodge County Fairgrounds.  The race has been reset for 8/29/08, the night before the Pepsi Nationals at the Prairie.  We will head to Charter Raceway to try and better our finish there earlier in the month.

5/28/2008

The Memorial 50 was rained out after the heat races.  John and Chuck are working hard to find a combination that works for me at Angell Park.  I'm sure we will get better soon.  The car is plenty fast, I just haven't figured out what I need to be fast.  Three races this weekend in Wisconsin.

5/20/2008

Those of you who came to Rockford sunday already know that we didn't compete there.  For those that don't know, we tested on thursday afternoon at the track.  We we're pleased with the early laps of the test, getting into the 12.50 range with old tires on the car.  Unfortunately a part failure sent the car into the first turn wall resulting in more damage then we we're able to repair for sundays race.  Sunday nights opener at Sun Prairie ended with a 10th place finish.  I had hoped for a little better result but built some confidence for the weeks to come.  Looking forward to the Memorial 50 at Angell Park this sunday...

5/14/2008

GOOD NEWS!  Usac has moved up the starting times by 1 hour this sunday at Rockford so that we will be able to make the trip to Sun Prairie.  Practice will start at noon with qualifying at 1:00 and racing at 2:00.  I hope to see alot of local support sunday so that the promoter will make this race an annual event.  See you all sunday...

5/5/2008

The Jerry Hardy team got a 1-2 finish at Beaver Dam over the weekend.  Mike Hess got the win and we ran a strong 2nd after leading 22 of the 30 lap feature.  It felt really good to have a car capable of winning and I'm looking forward to the year.  After an email from Greg McKarns (G.M. at Rockford Speedway) we thought usac might change the starting time at Rockford on the 18th.  There has been no official word yet, guess we'll wait and see....

4/29/2008

Unfortunately we will not be running the pavement car with usac's swing through Wisconsin and Illinois.  The promoter of the 3 race's had said originally the Rockford race would be over in time to still make the trip to Sun Prairie.  I recieved the usac entry form for Rockford which states the racing will not start until 3:00pm.  This does not allow us enough time to get to the badger event and we are running for points in that series.  We have decided to not support the other 2 pavement races because of this.

4/8/2008

Our return to Anderson ended with a broken valve spring.  We had a pretty good car all weekend but fell behind on tire stagger when it was time to qualify.  We were off by about 2 tenths in time trials which put us 25th and behind the 8 ball.  We easily won our heat race from the outside front row starting spot but had to start the feature 16th.  Travis Young who started in front of us spun in turn 3 on the 2nd lap and I couldn't avoid him.  We restarted at the tail of the field but a broken valve spring on lap 11 ended our day.  We'll get it fixed and head to Lacrosse for the next pavement race.  Looking forward to running the dirt car at Beaver Dam on May 3rd as well.

4/1/2008

Our first race driving for the Jerry Hardy team produced fast time (NTR) and a 4th place finish in the main.  Sunday afternoon the car was fast again but racing luck was against us.  After earning the #5 spot on the grid through the heat race and trophy dash, we got collected on the first lap and spun in front of the pack.  Fortunately noone hit us and I restarted at the tale.  I worked my way inside the top 10 before tangling with the 9th place car, spinning and ending our day.  All in all a fun weekend of racing.  Looking forward to the start of the outdoor season this weekend at Anderson.  We will be there Saturday for open practice and then race on Sunday afternoon.

3/23/2008

Happy Easter!

3/20/2008

The cars are nearing completion for the indoor races at the "Sandbox" coming up at the end of the month.  Chuck and I also have the pavement car nearly complete for the outdoor opener at Anderson.  Looking forward to getting on the track.

3/11/2008

Sorry for the long delay in updates.  I have updated the schedule.  After speaking with car owner Glenn Windstrup, we plan to run 3 pavement silver crown races starting with my favorite track Richmond International Raceway.  More to come...

1/28/2008

The team attended the UMARA Awards Banquet this past weekend (1/26/08) and took home the trophys for our 3rd championship.  We also scored the best appearing car award.  I will be updating the schedule this week as the 08 season is getting closer.

1/18/2008

Had a great time at the Chili Bowl again this year.  Its always nice to drive for Roger and Lara Miller, their just great people.  We ran well and despite oil pressure problems ran the C main on Saturday Night.  I added a couple pictures my Dad took from the pits.

1/2/2008

Well, Ft. Wayne didn't go as well as planned but we had a fast car capable of competing with front runners.  Engine issues prevented us from qualifying for Fridays program.  The team worked to straighten out the problems before Saturdays events.  We qualified 6th behind Tony Stewart, Billy Wease, Dave Darland,Mike Fedorcak and teammate Billy Hulbert.  After winning our heat race we started the feature 7th.  Before the half way point of the race the motor dropped a cylinder.  Running worse each lap I was forced to retire at about lap 40.  On to the Chili Bowl next week!

12/19/2007

Indoor racing is almost here.  My Fort Wayne ride is almost complete.  Roger and Lara are putting the final touches on the 75 machine in preparation for Tulsa.  Happy Holidays to all and we'll see you at the races!

11/21/2007

I found out this week I will have a good car to run at Fort Wayne.  Looking forward to competing there again, especially with the car I will be running.  I will again be driving for Roger and Lara Miller at the Chili Bowl.  We made it to the Saturday B-main last year and hope to improve on that to start the A.  More to come soon....

10/24/2007

Plans for 2008 are coming together.  After considering semi-retirement, I've been offered and excepted a ride with Jerry Hardy to run Badger full time.  It's a great opportunity in a great car.  Stay tuned for more.

9/24/2007

My thoughts and prayers go out to Alex Pruetts family and friends.  The news of his passing comes as a shock.  He will be missed by the entire racing community.  RIP Alex.

9/10/2007

Great weekend for A&G Motorsports!  We finished the season at Grundy County with our 3rd Illinois State feature win and our 3rd UMARA Championship.  Our team would like to wish Brian Olson a speedy recovery after a violent crash while leading Saturday night.  I am very glad to hear none of his injuries are life threatening.

9/4/2007

Nice turn out of cars and fans at the Lockard Memorial.  Hoping to lock down the Championship at the ILL State this Saturday!

8/31/2007

Closing in on our third Championship!  Back in our own car for the rest of the season after misfortune in the #5 machine.

8/7/2007

Rain postponed my debut in the Domark #5 last weekend.  We will try again this Saturday at Grundy County.

7/30/2007

I want to thank Byrne Racing for loaning us their back-up car Saturday at MIS.  An early practice engine failure doomed the 11 car.  We managed an 8th place finish after quailifing 3rd quick.  We will be at Grundy County on Saturday.  Any guesses on what car I will be driving?  Stay tuned to find out.

7/23/2007

Another great weekend at Grundy County for the #11 team.  We scored our 7th straight fast time and earned our 5th feature win of the year after starting from the rear of the field as a result of a flat tire in our heat race.  We have a 400 plus point lead heading into this weekends 30 lapper at Madison International Speedway.

7/18/2007

The team is having a good year on the pavement!  With 4 wins a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a 7th place finish we are holding a big lead in the UMARA point standings.

6/4/2007

The first pavement race at Grundy County Speedway produced our first win of the season.  The dirt races were rained out this weekend.  We will return to Grundy and Sun Prairie next weekend.

5/14/2007

Added a couple pictures of the pavement midget for 2007!

4/16/2007

Happy to announce a new partner with A&G Motorsports.  Dupont Automotive Finishes and Skinner Auto Body will be with us for the 2007 season.

4/8/2007

Looking forward to the start of the season.  The pavement midget is almost complete.  We are looking for a partner for the dirt midget program for this year.  Email me for more info.

4/8/2007

Looking forward to the start of the season.  The pavement car is almost done.  We are looking for a partner for the dirt midget program.  Email me at david@davidgough.com for more details.

4/8/2007

Happy Easter!!!

3/15/2007

I have started to update the schedule.  More to come...

2/5/2007

Stay tuned for info on the upcoming season....

11/20/2006

We have purchased the Fontana engine we ran last year from David Ward.  David made the buy too hard to pass up and I appreciate his continued support of our team.  We will be heading to Orlando for the PRI Classic next month.  Stay tuned for more...

10/10/2006

For those of you who read Midget Madness you know that I will not be driving the Domark car next season.  TJ told me of their decision a week ago and I wish them the best of luck.  We now are looking for a new engine program for next season with our Callahan pavement car.  David Budres has purchased our dirt midget with the Ford engine.

10/4/2006

The racing season is about over here in the midwest.  I talked with my buddy Mike Hess who is tied for the PowrI Championship going into the final 2 races this weekend.  He will have his hands full with Brad Kuhn battling for his 2nd Championship of the year.  If all goes well Mike and I are going to put his Esslinger in my pavement car for the Orlando races in December.  Good luck this weekend Mikey!

9/25/2006

I went down to Grundy on Saturday for the end of the season test and tune to get a few laps in the new Domark #5.  Unfortunaley rain was the only thing to get on the race track.  I did get to check out the new Spike/Esslinger mount and decided that it was one of the best looking/built race cars I had ever sat in.  Hopefully I will get a chance to race it next season.

9/18/2006

Well, we ended the season with a bang last Saturday at Spoon River.  Roger and Lara Miller brought the #75 out.  After some engine troubles early in the night we were headed for a starting spot in the A main when the rear axle (right side) broke entering turn one.  I am glad Roger built a strong car as I took a pretty wild ride.  I added some photos of their car before the accident, really a good looking car.  Hopefully we will get a chance to run for them again in the future.

8/21/2006

For the second year in a row, victory was in sight at the Illinois State Championship only to have an engine failure take us out of the race.  A broken lifter was the culprit this time.  We will try to regroup and repair the engines for a few more races at the end of the year.

8/11/2006

I added a couple photos from Milwaukee sent to me from Tom Casper to the photos page.  The cars are about ready for the weekend.  Come down to Grundy Saturday and watch the action.  Should be fun!

8/8/2006

I want to thank David Ward for getting the dirt engine back together so quickly.  We will be at Sun Prairie this Sunday and hope to run the remainder of the races there this year.  We will also be making our 3rd appearance at Grundy County this season.  The track has been fast the last couple of races and if conditions are right I would like to lower the track record a bit.  I know it is a tall order but very possible with our Callahan/Fontana combination.

8/7/2006

We were 2nd quick again at Schererville and won our heat race.  We missed the set up in the feature and finished 7th.  We will be running Grundy County the next 2 weeks along with Sun Prairie with the A&G 82 cars.

8/4/2006

Another good night with the sprint car.  2nd quick, won the heat and 3rd in the feature.  Prepping the car tonight for Schererville.  See you at the races.....

8/1/2006

We had a good weekend with the winged sprint car, setting a track record at Cedar Rapids, finishing 3rd in the feature then backing it up with a 4th place run at Marshfield.  We ended the weekend with a 14th place run at Sun Prairie.  2 more sprint car races this week.  Lake geneva and Schererville.

7/19/2006

I had a chance to test the new Fontana engine last night (Tuesday) at Rockford.  The engine feels as strong as it did before the failure at IRP in May.  Tim and I will be doing the setup on the car tonight in preparation for Milwaukee.  Stay tuned for updates after the weekend.

7/13/2006

Looks like we will have to miss the race at Grundy County Speedway on Saturday.  The good news is our pavement engine is on the way back from CA. and we will be ready for the USAC race at Milwaukee.  I will be driving the RAB Motorsports car at Sun Prairie this Sunday again. Our dirt motor is already apart and being freshened and should be back in a couple weeks.  Lets cross our fingers and hope all our engine troubles are behind us.  Don't forget the racers reunion Sunday at Angell Park.

7/11/2006

A little good luck for a change gave us a 6th place finish at Toledo in the USAC National race there.  I was just a tick off in qualifying and ended up 17th.  A decent run in the heat race produced a 3rd place finish and transfer spot in the feature.  Starting 16th I knew we would need a little help to have a good finish.  That help came from a broken radiator hose on the Bobby Santos car causing several cars to spin.  I was able to keep our car straight and picked up 5 spots.  The car was good after the red and I ended with our best USAC finish of the year.  A last minute deal put me in the RAB Motorsports car at Sun Prairie on Sunday.  They have struggled with engine problems all year.  We did not get any practice so my first lap in the car was qualifying.  Transfered through the heat race and started 21st in the A main and finished 15th.

7/5/2006

A name change at IRP to ORP unfortunately did not change our luck at the track.  A fairly respectable qualifying time of 21.746 put us outside row 2 in the third heat.  I moved to 2nd on the first lap where I would run for 3/4 of the race.  A late race yellow bunched up the field and I found myself under heavy pressure from past champs Jay Drake and Jason Leffler.  Both managed to get by at the finish sending me to the B main.  I was not able to transfer from my 9th place starting spot and missed the A main.  Columbus was rained out on the 4th and the crew was unable to miss 2 more days of work so we headed home.  Toledo is up next on the 8th.

6/26/2006

We finally have something good to talk about.  We took the pavement midget to Grundy County Speedway Saturday night for the Carter-Anderson Memorial Race.  The car was fast right off the trailer.  Our first quick time of the year came in qualifying with a lap of 14.57.  I finished 3rd in the heat race that was won by Jimmy Anderson (from the back) on a night honoring his father.  Starting sixth in the feature I was able to move to the front before the end of lap 3 and lead the rest of the way unchallenged.  I would like to thank Bill Freis and all the great sponsors for this event.  It was truly a nice payday at the race track thanks to their support and hard work.  We plan to run IRP on Saturday the 1st.  Talk to you soon!!!

6/19/2006

The team ran three races this past week and came home with 3 top 10 finishes.  South Bend was tough to pass on and I did not qualify well.  I started 16th and finished 10th.  Friday night we took the Winged Sprint Car to Madison International Speedway and ran a very competitive 3rd.  Saturday we headed to Marshfield for a another shot with the sprint car.  The car was fast thru practice and qualifying.  Starting 4th I grabbed the lead on the first lap and started to pull away from the field.  A few laps into the race the car picked up a terrible push.  I struggled through and came home with another 3rd place finish.  Back to Grundy County this weekend.  See you at the races!!!

6/12/2006

Rain cancelled the action at Anderson over the weekend.  Since the pavement car is ready to run we plan to make the trip to South Bend on Wednesday for the co-sanction event featuring Ryan Newman and Jason Leffler competing in midgets.

6/9/2006

We have installed the dirt engine in the pavement car for the X2RA race at Anderson this weekend.  Unfortunately we will have to miss Sun Prairie on Sunday.  We plan to concentrate on the pavement car until we have the other Fontana engine back.  Hopefully the weather forecasters are wrong for Saturday in Indiana.  I really like Anderson as it is the place we picked up our first USAC National Midget Feature Win.

6/6/2006

The team ran Grundy County Speedway this past Saturday in Paul Perkins Fontana powered Callahan car.  A very nice car but fuel system problems kept us in the pits most of the night.  We got the problem solved before the B main but didn't have time to sort out the car before the main.  We were WAY to tight.  Sunday at Sun Prairie started out well with 2nd quick time.  Lady luck again was against us and a broken rocker arm ended our night.  We paln to run Anderson Speedway this Saturday and possible Sun Prairie on Sunday.

6/1/2006

Well it's a new month and the team is changing direction a bit.  After a part failure caused our pavement motor to come apart at IRP we have decided to skip the race at Knoxville this weekend.  Instead I will be driving Paul Perkins Fontana/Callahan car at Grundy County Speedway on Saturday night and our dirt car at Sun Prairie on Sunday night.  We hope to get back on track soon but need the pavement motor to obtain our goals.  Unfortunately the cost of repairs to that motor are quite extensive.  Stay tuned for more info.

5/23/2006

There is only one word that can describe our weekend down south....FRUSTRATION.  After a poor turnout of cars at Salem, X2RA decided to cancel after the purse was cut.  We travelled south to Concord a day behind as teams practiced Saturday night from 5:00 until 10:00.  We unloaded pretty fast and managed a 10th place qualifying effort among 38 cars.  After failing to transfer in our heat race we started 6th in a strong B main.  The car was a bit tight and we lost a spot near the start of the race finishing 7th and missing the transfer to the A main.  We will regroup and head for IRP on Saturday.  See you at the races....

5/15/2006

Its was a good weekend to have off from racing.  Lots of rain and cold weather is never as much fun at the track.  This weekend is looking much better.  I can't wait to head south!

5/13/2006

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MOM'S

5/11/2006

I added some new pictures to the photos page including some of the cars at the shop.  We have the numbers painted on the pavement car now and things are almost ready for Salem & Concorde. See you at the races.

5/8/2006

The first X2RA race is in the books.  We had some problems with plugged nozzles in the twin 20 lap features that left us without good finishes.  The X2RA group did a nice job for their first event.  We will be off next weekend while Chuck and I prepare for the May 20-21 weekend of pavement racing.

5/5/2006

I,m back from a couple of days testing at IRP and Grundy County.  The tests went fairly well.  I was hoping to be a little faster at IRP but the car ran well and was very comfortable to drive.  We have a few ideas to try and get faster before we go back for the Night Before the 500.  We will be heading to Montpelier on Saturday for the 1st X2RA race of the year.  Stay Tuned.....

5/2/2006

The weather looks good for Indy on Wednesday.  We will be testing from 4:00pm till 8:00pm if all goes well.  I want to thank Rick from Fontana who is flying out for our test.  We will be sharing track time with Keith Kunz Motorsports and Dave Byrne who also run Fontana engines.  Hopefully the weather will hold out for this weekend at Montpelier as well.

5/1/2006

The team had a great test at Grundy County Speedway last Thursday.  I am really happy with our new car and engine package.  We will be heading to IRP on 5/3/06 to do some testing for the Night Before the 500.

Weekend rain washed out Beaver Dam on Saturday.  We will have to miss the make up date as we will be in Montpelier on May 6th.  I will post some results from our test on Wednesday later in the week.

4/27/2006

The chat on dirttracktrader.com went well last night.  I want to thank Marty and crew for the invite.  We are heading to Grundy for a little fuel system testing this afternoon.  Check back tomorrow for an update.

4/26/2006

Don't forget to log on to dirttracktrader.com tonight at 8:00 pm central and go to the Midget Chat room.  I will be on tonight with Marty Boyer and crew to discuss the upcoming season and our teams plans.  I see the Hoosier Hundred is back on, makes me wish we had a car to run it.  We had fun last year in our first attempt but it was short lived.  Talk to you all tonight.

4/25/2006

Well, the Lincoln-Canton weekend was interesting to say the least.  We missed practice at Lincoln due to a fuel system problem (my fault) but rebounded with a 4th place run in our heat race to transfer directly to the main.  Not bad considering the 47 cars in the pits, very strong field.  The original start of the A main was a good one for us moving past several cars on the high side before the caution waved calling for a complete restart.  During that caution one of the arms on the throttle shaft slipped and caused the throttle to hang open ending our night.

We had hoped to turn our luck around at Canton but the promotor pulled the plug on the whole night after hotlaps stating a lack of funds for payout.  I know alot of people were blaming Mike Hess for this however DQ was just a sponsor and had paid their agreed upon amount.  It was a bad deal all around but we just need to move on and get ready for Power Com next week.  See ya at the races!

4/17/2006

The team had a successful test at Dodge County Fairgrounds on Saturday.  The new Fontana Engine seems to have plenty of power.  We are looking forward to testing it in competition this weekend at the Badger openers at Lincoln and Canton.  A & G Motorsports is still seeking some associate sponsors for this season.  If you know of a company who might be interested please contact us with the information.  My email is david@davidgough.com.  Thanks to all and we'll see you at the races this weekend.

4/14/2006

Power Com has cancelled practice for Saturday the 15th so the team has decided to go to Dodge County Fairgrounds on Saturday evening instead.  Practice starts at 4:00pm.  We will be starting the new dirt car this afternoon.  The car looks great, can't wait to see how it runs.  I'll post some news after our test to let everyone know how it went.

4/11/2006

I spent a little time on dirttracktrader.com last night in the midget chat room.  My buddy Mike Hess was supposed to be the guest but he was a no show.  He justed moved into a new house and didn't have internet access.  I am scheduled to be the guest on 4/26/06 at 8:00 pm central.  I hope to add some great picture to the site in the next few days.  Check back soon.

4/10/2006

The dirt car is nearly complete.  We hope to fire the new Fontana motor on Wednesday.  We will be heading to Beaver Dam this Saturday the 15th to shake down the car in preparation for the Badger opener at Lincoln on the 22nd.

4/6/2006

Welcome to my new website.  I have to thank KMK Media for the site.  They have done a great job with it.  Alot has happened since I last updated the site.  We have confirmed our plans to run the entire USAC National Midget Series, with the help from David Ward and Fontana Automotive.  I will be updating this page often so check back soon.  Take a look at our team page as I will also be updating it so you know who works behind the scenes to make this team work.
